Description

An experimental facility designed to evaluate the behaviour of new thermal fluids in systems for the production, storage, and supply of heating and cooling, with a nominal heat exchange capacity of 3 kW.

It enables testing with fluids featuring unconventional thermophysical properties, including non-Newtonian fluids, highly viscous fluids, and phase-change materials.

The facility is fully instrumented and equipped to support the development, validation, and optimisation of advanced control algorithms.

Equipment

  • Reversible heat pump (6 kWt cooling capacity, 7 kWt heating capacity)
  • 3 kWt heat exchangers suitable for non-Newtonian fluids and phase-change materials
  • 600 L thermal energy storage tank
  • Hydraulic circuit for thermal fluid circulation
  • Cooling demand emulation system using an electric heater
  • Instrumentation for measuring temperatures, flow rates, pressures, and non-Newtonian fluid properties
  • Data acquisition and control system
  • Platform for implementing advanced control algorithms
Services
  • Evaluation of fluid behaviour under unconventional conditions (phase change, non-Newtonian behaviour, and high viscosity)
  • Performance analysis of thermal production and storage systems
  • Experimental validation of advanced control strategies
