Description

The laboratory comprises machines and test benches for the static and dynamic characterisation of components, applying controlled loads and frequencies. These enable the assessment of strength, the characterisation of stiffness, the generation of rolling adhesion curves and the verification of structural functionality. It also features data acquisition and analysis equipment, together with various types of sensors for real-world instrumentation of both vehicles and infrastructure.

Equipment

  • Pneumatic ball machine and components
  • Scale model wheel-rail contact machine
  • INSTRON MHF25 machine
  • Test bench with actuator for ad hoc test set-ups
  • LMS SCADA and Dewesoft
  • Acceleration, displacement and strain gauges, and load cells
  • Microphones
  • Uninterruptible power supply systems
Services
  • Static and dynamic characterisation of elastomeric materials (rubber)
  • Experimental modal analysis for the characterisation of vibrations
  • Instrumentation and field testing for the diagnosis of vibration problems in railway vehicles and infrastructure
  • Theoretical-experimental correlation of railway dynamics models
