PHOENIX is a unique pilot-scale thermochemical recycling facility designed to promote the circularity of plastic materials and composites, operating at a scale beyond that of laboratory reactors.
The facility integrates thermolysis (pyrolysis) and solvolysis processing lines, which can operate independently or synergistically to recover value from waste materials. The processes produce waxes, fibers, monomers, and oligomers in quantities sufficient for reuse and for the development of new polyester and polyurethane resins with tailored properties.
Equipment
- 5 L thermolysis reactor for scaling up pyrolysis process developments.
- Reaction systems for solid-state polycondensation and the synthesis of new resins from recovered monomers and oligomers.
- Recycled material characterization equipment, including:
- Intrinsic viscosity measurement equipment
- Haze measurement instruments
- Chromatography systems
- Muffle furnaces with nitrogen atmospheres
- Heat-treatment and conditioning ovens
- Design and scale-up of thermochemical recycling processes, including thermolysis and solvolysis, for plastics and composites.
- Assessment of the quality of recycled fractions and their reintegration into new material formulations.
- Development of resins and secondary materials from waste.
- Comparative testing of circularity pathways and support for companies implementing chemical recycling solutions under conditions representative of industrial operations.
