Description

State-of-the-art facilities and equipment for characterizing the mechanical properties of metallic materials and components.


Main equipment

  • Tightening torque equipment for fasteners with capacities between 10 Nm and 30,000Nm.
  • Traction/compression machines with capacities between 200N and 1500KN.
  • Fatigue bench with slotted bed for dynamic multiaxial mechanical tests composed of three independent actuators (25KN, 25KN and 50KN).
  • Cryoscopic chambers for Charpy tests at low temperature (up to -196ºC).
  • Axial fatigue machines of 100KN and 250KN capacity.
  • Charpy pendulums for impact bending tests with a maximum capacity of 300J (UNE and ASTM).
  • Instrumented pendulum for impact tests with a maximum capacity of 50J.
  • Climatic chamber for static or dynamic tests at low and high temperatures (from -120ºC to +325ºC).
  • Furnace for static tests at high temperature (+100ºC to +1300ºC).
  • Manual Vickers hardness tester (0.1÷30Kg).
  • Automated Vickers microhardness tester (0.01÷2kg).
  • Brinell hardness tester.
  • Rockwell hardness testers.

  • Tensile test

- Tensile tests at 200N and 1500KN under the following conditions:
  - At room temperature.
  - At elevated temperature.
  - At low temperature.
  - At low speed.
  - In corrosive medium.

  • Compression test

- Compression tests from 200N to 1500KN and under the following conditions:
  - At room temperature.
  - At elevated temperature.
  - At low temperature.

  • Hardness test

  - Rockwell hardness
  - Brinell hardness
  - Vickers hardness
  - Measurement of hardened layers.
  - Tests performed in the laboratory, at customer facilities or in field.

  • Three point bending test

- Registered values:
  - Bending force.
  - Deformation.
  - Ductility measurement.

  • Impact bending test (Charpy)

  - Energy range up to 300J.
  - At room temperature.
  - At low temperature (up to -196ºC).

  • Dynamic impact bending test (instrumented Charpy)

  - Energy range up to 50J.

  • Fatigue test

  - S-N curves of materials.
  - Component fatigue life.
  - Fatigue corrosion.
  - Crack growth.

  • Fracture toughness

- Determination of KIC, JIC parameters, crack growth rate and CTOD.
  - At room temperature.
  - At low temperature.
  - At elevated temperature.

  • Tightening torque tests

  - Determination of coefficients of friction.
  - Determination of optimal tightening torque.
  - Determination of tightening preload.
  - Tightening torques between 10Nm and 30,000Nm.
  - Maximum force of 3,000kN.

  • Approval tests for welders and welding procedures
