Description

State-of-art facilities and equipment for characterizing the mechanical properties of metallic materials and componenents.


Main equipment


  • Equipment for testing corrosion in acidic environments
  • Testing equipments under stress in natural atmospheres or atmospheres type H2S
  • Testing constant deformation (bending tests at various points of support) or constant loads for working in different corrosion media
  • Salt spray test and condensed steam atmospheres cabinets

  • High current, premium quality Autolab PGSTAT302N Potentiostat/Galvanostat, with 30V compliance voltage and 1Mhz bandwidth, with a FRA32M module for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
  • Autolab PGSTAT302F Potentiostats for Hydrogen Permeation. Special version of PGSTAT302N that can be locked in floating mode. Voltage range ± 30V and a bandwidth of 100K Hz
  • Autolab PGSTAT101 portable potentiostat. Potential range -10 V to 10 V, available voltage range ± 10 V and maximum bandwidth in HZ 1M
  • High temperature tube furnace. Maximum working temperature 1500°C, possibility of working in a protective atmosphere, maximum tube diameter 80 mm and maximum heating ramp 25°C/h
  • Circulation baths with heating Corio C-BT27 from Julabo. Temperature range 20-100°C. Heating capacity 2KW
  • Devanathan-Stachurski permeation cells

  • Minitom-Struers precision diamond cutter. Low speed cutting machine for precision cuts of ± 0.01 mm with diamond and CBN blades of 75-125 mm for cutting metallic and ceramic materials

Intergranular and pitting corrosion

 
Tested materials
Stainless steels and CRA (corrosion resistant alloys).
Media and conditions
  • Aggressive media: Solutions with a high concentration of acids such as sulfuric or nitric, or with a high content of chlorides.
  • Short duration.
Assessed aspect
Estimation of mass loss and visual inspection for defects caused by corrosion, such as cracks or pitting.
They allow to certify materials that must comply with resistance characteristics against corrosion. They are necessary to validate the material and ensure its behavior in service.
  • Acid corrosion according to ASTM A262, ASTM G48, ASTM G28, ISO 3651, ASTM A923.
  • Metallographic methods ASTM E562, ASTM A262.method A, ASTM A923.method A, NORSOK- ISO17781


 

Environmental testing

 
Tested materials
Metallic and non-metallic coatings on steel and other materials.
Media and conditions
Exposure under certain temperature and humidity conditions.
Combination with coating evaluation tests
They allow evaluating the resistance and behavior of different types of coatings against corrosion. The most commonly carried out in AZTERLAN are:
  • Neutral Salt Spray Test according to ISO 9227 and ASTM B117.
  • Condensate Vapor Test according to UNE EN ISO 6270 and ASTM D2247.
  • Cyclic Corrosion Test: FORD CETP 00.00-L-467, VDA 621-415, VW PV1210, UNE-EN ISO 11997-1 (B), etc.


 

Hydrogen fragilization susceptibility in sulfhydric acid (H2S)

 
Tested materials
Low/medium alloy carbon steels in normalized state, or quenching and tempering.
Media and conditions
Tests carried out without tension (HIC) or under tension (SSC).
Assessed aspect
Evaluation of the metallurgical quality and the manufacturing process against the generation of hydrogen cracks.
