The Cell Cultures Platform (CCP) was created to cover the needs of the many researchers at the BioDonostia HRI and associated centres working in cell cultures. Its objective is to provide technical and scientific support to the Institute’s researchers, to associated companies and external businesses. It offers technical assistance and services in the field of cell cultures, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and analysis of cellular metabolism (Sea Horse). The Platform also offers a cryopreservation service. It has 3 cell culture rooms: two rooms are reserved for primary and stable cell culture, and the third room is used for infecting cells with viruses that come under biosafety level 2. The Cell Culture Platform is responsible for the correct operation and preventive maintenance of culture equipment (cabinets, incubators, etc.), for control of the general cleaning of the rooms, maintenance of the appropriate documentation and preparation of cleaning and maintenance protocols, paying particular attention to waste management, biosafety, microbiological and mycoplasma control.

The platform manages its processes according to the guidelines of Standard UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015, while its Quality Management System is certified by AENOR. This lends added value to the work carried out by the Platform, particularly with a view to external applicants for its services, and fosters trust regarding the extent of the Quality applied to the processing of their requests.
