Description

Tool for optimizing gas atomization processes and producing high-value non-commercial metal powders.

Ceit's Pilot Plant has two atomization units: a laboratory-scale unit capable of producing small batches of metal powder, and an industrial-scale unit that allows atomization of batches ranging from 40 to 200 kg. This equipment has expanded Ceit's offering in the research of metallic powders and atomization processes. The boom experienced by various Additive Manufacturing technologies has led to a considerable increase in the demand for gas-atomized powder, and Ceit makes it possible to produce large batches of powders to meet the quantities requested by technology centers, universities, and companies both nationally and internationally. Unlike large metallic powder producers, Ceit focuses on research and the production of non-commercial, high value-added metallic powders not currently available on the market. Its unique ability to produce both very small and larger batches provides highly attractive flexibility for undertaking research on the development of new alloys not currently available, making Ceit a benchmark center in atomization. Furthermore, the use of numerical simulation techniques has improved powder quality, provided better understanding of operational variables, reduced costs, and increased process productivity through redesign of critical components.

Problem solved

This asset enables the production of small and medium batches of high-quality, non-commercial, high value-added metallic powders through gas atomization, optimizing key industrial processes in strategic sectors. Unlike large metallic powder producers, Ceit focuses on research and the production of non-commercial metallic powders with high added value, not currently available on the market. With its two atomization units, Ceit enables the development of new alloys and subsequent production of large batches to validate the developments. In addition, the use of numerical simulation techniques has improved powder quality, provided better understanding of the influence of different operational variables, reduced costs, and increased process productivity through the redesign of critical components.
