- Engineering & Technology
An offshore platform moored at BIMEP for testing materials, coatings, sensors, and equipment under real-world conditions in the Bay of Biscay. It covers environments ranging from the atmosphere and splash zone to the seabed, with telecommunications and support for grid-connected prototypes.
The platform enables prototypes and materials to be exposed to and monitored in open-sea conditions, while recording environmental parameters and assessing degradation, corrosion, and operational performance in harsh environments. This facilitates technology validation and maturation for offshore applications.
Equipment
- Meteorological and oceanographic sensors.
- 3G communications and positioning systems.
- Underwater modem.
- Remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for inspection.
- Infrastructure for corrosion, ageing, antifouling, and connection system testing.
- Exposure and monitoring in open-sea conditions
- Validation of offshore solutions
- Support for demonstrators and high technology readiness level (TRL) projects
Aimed at:
- Companies, universities and any national/international research centre interested in testing materials or components in a real offshore environment.
HarshLab1.0 is anchored at BIMEP (Biscay Marine Energy Platform), 1.6 miles off the coast of Armintza (Bay of Biscay, Spain).
