TEKNIKER's laboratory is dedicated to the comprehensive characterisation of functional coatings produced using physical technologies (PVD, CVD, ALD), chemical technologies (sol-gel), electrochemical technologies (PEO) and surface modification techniques (laser processing, nanoimprinting and photolithography).

It integrates morphological, compositional, optical, mechanical and functional analysis techniques, covering the entire coating validation cycle, from microstructure and adhesion to in-service properties (tribological, corrosion, optical and biological performance).

Equipment

  • Optical microscopy, 3D confocal microscopy, SEM/EDS and AFM for morphological analysis
  • XRD, XRF, GDOES and FTIR for compositional characterisation
  • UV/Vis/NIR spectrophotometry, ellipsometry and colorimetry for optical characterisation
  • Nanoindenter and scratch tester for mechanical properties (hardness, modulus and adhesion)
  • Profilometer for thickness and surface roughness measurements
  • Goniometer for contact angle and surface energy measurements
  • Equipment for basic tribological testing and accelerated corrosion testing

  • Morphological characterisation of coatings: Microstructure, defects, thickness and surface roughness (optical microscopy, confocal microscopy, SEM/EDS and AFM)
  • Compositional analysis: Phases, crystal structure and elemental composition (XRD, XRF, GDOES and FTIR)
  • Optical characterisation: Transmittance, reflectance, colour and refractive index (UV/Vis/NIR spectrophotometry and ellipsometry)
  • Mechanical properties: Hardness, elastic modulus and adhesion (nanoindentation and scratch testing)
  • Surface properties: Contact angle, surface energy and hydrophobicity
  • Functional testing: Tribological, corrosion and biocompatibility testing
