An experimental facility dedicated to the evaluation, validation, and optimisation of Stirling engines and thermoelectric conversion systems.
It enables different thermal and mechanical operating conditions to be reproduced in order to analyse energy performance, efficiency, and dynamic behaviour.
The facility is designed for the development and validation of advanced control and energy management strategies, with hot air generation capabilities of up to 900°C and thermal dissipation capacity of up to 1 MWt.
Equipment
- V160F Stirling engine coupled to an electrical generator
- Hot air generator (60–250 kWt) powered by propane
- Primary and secondary cooling circuits with thermal dissipation capacity of up to 1 MWt
- Working gas management system (helium)
- Advanced instrumentation for thermal, mechanical, and electrical monitoring
- Data acquisition and control system developed in LabVIEW, with manual and semi-automatic operating modes
- Platform for experimental characterisation and validation of control strategies
- Experimental characterisation of Stirling engines and thermal conversion systems
- Assessment of energy performance and efficiency
- Testing under different temperature, pressure, and rotational speed conditions
- Development and validation of advanced control strategies
- Design and execution of experimental testing campaigns
- Data acquisition and analysis for the validation of thermal and dynamic models
