Description

The laboratory is fully equipped to support the complete development, scale-up and characterization of membranes for a wide range of applications.

Its capabilities include the production of inorganic membranes (palladium-based membranes, ceramic membranes and Carbon Molecular Sieve (CMS) membranes), as well as polymeric and Mixed Matrix Membranes (MMMs), in different configurations, including tubular, flat-sheet and hollow-fibre membranes.

The facility is equipped with several permeation testing systems to evaluate the main membrane separation properties, including permeability, selectivity, solubility and diffusivity coefficients, as well as overall membrane performance.

These studies can be conducted under different operating conditions depending on the target application, including variations in pressure, temperature and gas composition.

Equipment

  • Laboratory facilities covering 500 m².
  • 6 fume hoods for membrane synthesis.
  • 5 fully equipped testing chambers for membrane characterization under relevant operating conditions.
  • Thermal treatment area with industrial-scale furnaces operating at temperatures of up to 1,800 °C.
  • Inorganic membrane preparation area.
  • Hollow-fibre spinning area.
