Description
Infrastructure for the development, optimisation, and scale-up of bioprocesses based on microbial fermentation and cell cultures, aimed at producing biofuels, bioproducts, and platform molecules.
Capabilities range from laboratory scale to pilot plant scale, including advanced process control, downstream processing integration, and validation under conditions representative of industrial environments.
Equipment
- Laboratory- and pilot-scale bioreactors (aerobic and anaerobic fermentation).
- Reactors with advanced control of pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pressure, and feeding.
- Equipment for progressive scale-up (bench scale → pilot scale).
- Downstream separation and purification systems (centrifugation, filtration, microfiltration, and ultrafiltration).
- Chromatography systems (HPLC/GC).
- Sterilisation systems and equipment for operation under controlled conditions.
Services
- Development and optimisation of fermentation processes.
- Selection and improvement of microbial strains.
- Kinetic studies and bioprocess modelling.
- Optimisation of culture media and feeding strategies.
- Development of downstream strategies for product recovery and purification.
- Techno-economic assessment (TEA) and environmental assessment (LCA).
- Evaluation of yield, productivity, and stability.
- Integration of bioprocesses into industrial value chains.
- Scale-up planning and validation towards industrial demonstration.
