Description

Experimental infrastructure for the development, characterisation, and validation of CO₂ capture technologies based on solvents, solid materials (adsorbents), membranes, and intensified configurations, including direct air capture (DAC).

The infrastructure supports testing under controlled conditions and with real or simulated gas streams, covering a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and gas compositions.

It also includes the NANOC Laboratory, which specialises in the development of advanced materials, including silica and carbon aerogels, sol-gel materials, and hydrothermal materials, with CO₂ capture capabilities and lower emissions during manufacturing.

Equipment

  • Absorption/desorption columns for solvents (laboratory and pilot scale).
  • Cyclic adsorption systems (PSA, TSA, PTSA, VTSA).
  • DAC test benches for dilute gas streams and humidity control.
  • Membrane modules and test benches (single-gas and multicomponent mixtures).
  • Intensified reactors and contactors.
  • Gas mixture generation and conditioning systems.
  • Online gas analysis equipment (GC, micro-GC, IR).
  • Temperature and pressure control systems.
  • NANOC Laboratory – Synthesis and characterisation of advanced materials for CO₂ capture:
    - Sol-gel chemistry laboratory.
    - Hydrothermal reactors of various capacities (500 mL, 2 L, 5 L).
    - Supercritical fluid reactors of various capacities (1 L, 3 L).
    - Scanning electron microscope (SEM).
    - Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR).
    - X-ray diffractometer (XRD).
    - Rheometer.
    - Calorimeter.
  • Instrumentation for breakthrough curves and dynamic performance evaluation.
  • Equipment for material characterisation, including specific surface area, porosity, and thermal and chemical stability.
