NEIKER’s Greenhouse – Biological Containment Facility NCB2-SL3 strengthens its capabilities in agricultural and livestock production within the food sector. It is designed to support projects and validation activities for public administrations, business clusters, and the agri-food sector.
The facility is equipped with key technologies, including a greenhouse with temperature, lighting, and humidity control, biological containment systems, physical barriers, and established protocols. These enable operations with traceability and reproducibility.
The facility provides services such as plant material quarantine, work involving quarantine pathogens, epidemiological research and control, and the validation of plant protection products.
The availability of dedicated rooms and sensor systems enables scientific results to be analyzed under controlled conditions, with experiments conducted in triplicate.
Its aim is to reduce technical and scientific uncertainty and provide evidence to support knowledge transfer to public authorities and industry stakeholders.
Equipment
- 300 m² greenhouse with bench-based cultivation and biological containment safeguards.
- Containment level: NC-P 2.
- Biological containment level: NCB2-P, with certain additional NCB3-P conditions.
- National authorization for work involving harmful insect-transmitted plant pathogens, in accordance with For Plants Grown under Complete Physical Isolation, OEPP/EPPO Bulletin (2016), 46(3), 421–423.
- Fully climate-controlled greenhouse, with regulation of temperature, lighting, relative humidity, and CO₂.
- Sealed greenhouse rooms with passive barriers and active access controls using negative pressure.
- Certified structures, barriers, and protocols for handling quarantine plant pathogens transmitted through water, air, and insects.
- Quarantine of plant material.
- Epidemiological research and disease control.
- Validation of plant protection products.
