TEKNIKER’s tribology platform integrates 24 tribometers and 6 component testing rigs, making it the largest tribological characterisation facility within the Basque Network of Science, Technology and Innovation (RVCTI).
The facility can reproduce virtually any tribological degradation mechanism, including abrasion, adhesion, scuffing, pitting, micropitting, fretting, tribocorrosion and erosion, across an exceptionally wide range of operating conditions.
Testing capabilities include temperatures ranging from −35 °C to 1,000 °C, loads of up to 10,000 N, speeds of up to 10,000 rpm, and environments involving vacuum, corrosive atmospheres, hydrogen or electrical current.
The platform is complemented by multiscale characterisation techniques for wear scars, including SEM/EDS, 3D confocal microscopy and surface roughness measurement.
