A laboratory equipped for the comprehensive characterization of fluids (oils, metalworking fluids) and grinding materials (grinding wheels and workpiece materials).

It covers the evaluation of the physicochemical and mechanical properties of fluids and materials, as well as their tribological performance under operating conditions.

These studies provide the foundation for developing process improvement strategies focused on using more efficient and durable fluids and materials, whether newly developed or commercially available products.

Equipment

• Tribological testing laboratory: Friction and wear testing for the evaluation of fluid/material systems.
• Materials characterization laboratory: Analysis of mechanical and surface properties, corrosion resistance, microstructure and residual stresses.
• Fluid characterization laboratory: Comprehensive analysis of the physicochemical and thermal properties of grinding fluids, including viscosity, thermal conductivity and spectroscopy.

• Development of new lubricating fluids
• Evaluation of the corrosive effects of grinding fluids
• Assessment of the impact of cooling on tribo-thermo-mechanical behaviour during grinding
