This infrastructure strengthens capabilities in food processes and bioprocesses within the field of nutrition and is designed to support projects and their validation in the agri-food sector.
It is based on the use of in vitro rumen fermentation systems, including the gas production technique for studying fermentation kinetics and the Rusitec system for simulating rumen conditions under controlled settings.
It enables the evaluation of animal feeds and feed ingredients, the characterization of their fermentation behavior, and the optimization of feed formulations. It also allows researchers to analyze the effects of nutritional strategies on digestibility and rumen fermentation.
Its aim is to reduce technical and scientific uncertainty and generate evidence to support knowledge transfer to public authorities and industry stakeholders.
Equipment
- Water bath with bottle incubation.
- Manual gas measurements at intervals of 2–96 hours.
- Determination of organic matter digestibility.
- Evaluation of animal feeds and feed ingredients
- Fermentation kinetics studies
- Feed formulation optimization
- Gas emission mitigation studies
