Multifunctional vacuum induction melting furnace with a mould casting system, designed to produce high-quality metal and alloy ingots under conditions of high reproducibility. It enables laboratory-scale operations with charges of between 5 and 20 kg of steel using the same induction coils, whilst controlling the atmosphere, the thermal cycle and the casting parameters. It is a key asset for the development and optimisation of new alloys, the study of defects associated with solidification, and the production of reference material for thermomechanical and powder metallurgical processes.
Equipment
- Vacuum melting and casting chamber with a capacity of up to ~20 kg of steel. Induction power system with interchangeable coils for the 5–20 kg range. Vacuum system and gas lines for controlled/protective atmospheres. Water-cooling system for critical components.
- Electric, hydraulic and pneumatic drives for casting operations and safe handling.
- Process control and monitoring system (melting parameters, vacuum, gas, times and temperatures).
- Development and optimisation of new metal alloys in batches of 5–20 kg. Vacuum melting of steels and superalloys to produce high-purity ingots.
- Manufacture of ingots and preforms for thermomechanical testing, heat treatment and powder metallurgy.
- Experimental studies of solidification and defectology (porosity, segregation, cracks).
- Definition and adjustment of melting and casting parameters for industrial processes (scaling up to plant level). Feasibility studies and manufacture of demonstrators/prototypes for companies.
