Descripción

TECNALIA’s Laboratory for the Detection and Measurement of Airborne Nanoparticles provides air quality and nanoparticle measurement capabilities within the Environmental sector.

The facility is equipped with instruments such as the CPC 3007 and CPC 3775 (TSI), SMPS 3936 + DMA 3085 (TSI), and ELPI+ (Dekati), enabling testing and measurements under representative conditions.

It provides services including workplace risk and exposure assessment, on-site monitoring campaigns, and personal sampling, supporting development, validation, and scale-up activities.

The laboratory is designed to support R&D and technology transfer projects, providing reliable data for informed decision-making and regulatory compliance.

Equipment

Direct measurement equipment:

  • TSI CPC 3007 condensation particle counter: particle size measurement range 10 nm-1 µm.
  • TSI CPC 3775 condensation: particle range 4 nm-1 µm.
  • TSI SMPS 3936 & DMA 3085 Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer Spectrometer: particle size measurement range 4 nm-1 µm.
  • Electrical Low Pressure Impactor ELPI+ DekatiI. Particle size measurement range 6 nm-10 µm.
  • TSI Aerotrak: determination of the surface area of particles, 10 nm-1 µm.
  • OPC Lighthouse 3016: particle size measurement range 0.3- 10 µm.

This equipment makes it possible to characterise particulate aerosol in real time in terms of concentration, number of particles, size distribution and surface area.

Equipment for sampling and subsequent analysis:

  • Sampling: pumps for personal sampling and personal samplers with different sampling cut-off sizes (inhalable fraction, breathable fraction, impactors).
  • Sample analysis. The morphological characterisation of the particles, their chemical composition and the measurement of the mass concentration is carried out with specific equipment available at TECNALIA’s laboratories (SEM, ICP).
